The Empress is a chameleon; more specifically, she is a 20 year old dilettante and bon vivant extraordinaire who is enjoying a period of “doing whatever the hell she wants”, after having ditched university (for now). During this time, she hopes to do many things. Launch her online store selling her handmade ‘things’, write her novel, self-publish an online children’s serial with beauteous illustrations, bake lots of cookies for Sebastian, et cetera. Rose and Sebastian are pictured right.
Apart from career-type aspirations, Rose loves doing musical theatre. She recently played Yum Yum in The Mikado, and has also appeared in Tommy, Anything Goes, The Wizard of Oz and Nineteen Eighty-Four. Other things she loves include: piano, trying to play violin, painting, drawing, swimming, writing, singing, sewing, dancing, baking, visiting the pet shop, playing Nintendo, shopping, running and taking photos.
Some of her favourite music: Bjork, Belle and Sebastian, Jeff Buckley, Bic Runga, Mozart, Silje Nergaard, Muse, Zulya Kamalova and the Children of the Underground and Blonde Redhead.
Favourite writers: Sylvia Plath, Virginia Woolf, Franz Kafka, Jostein Gaarder, Alice Walker, Marilyn Hacker, Anais Nin, William Shakespeare (especially the Sonnets), Emily Bronte, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Rosalie Ham.
Favourite films: I Heart Huckabees, Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, Pulp Fiction and Shaun of the Dead
Other than that, she loves blood orange soda, her clear umbrella (RIP), glow in the dark stars, playing Diablo, spicy salmon sushi, exploring alleyways in Melbourne, gray skies on hot and windy days, listening to classical music really loud, making things, cinnamon donut icecream from Fritz Gelato, the candy-coloured fairy lights in her room, finding new friends and kindred spirits, melon soda, the dulcimer player on Swanston street, and collecting lanterns and tea sets.
The Pajama Empress came about in 2006 on Blogger as a successor to The Dandelion Song (RIP), the blog that had functioned as her outlet since 2004.

Thank you Eddie! So, when are you coming to really visit me, huh?
I’m sure there would be something worth you coming to Melbourne just to eat.. maybe I’ll do some research on what weird and wonderful food we have.
Or you could just come to taste my cooking – that would probably be adventurous enough!

Hey there, love your blog! I knew Michael Mellor from the time down in Shilin and up on the mountain at the European School campus. Wonder what he has become.
I even was Santa Claus for TBS, and still have an image I will put on Flickr around December of a little girl hugging me!
Cheers,
Wolfgang
